I sent my first mailout when I was 6 years old. At the time, I wanted to be a vet, and wanted to see what it was like to run a veterinary practice. I skimmed my local yellow pages, found the addresses and names for the nearest 7 vets and sent each of them a letter. It basically explained that I was looking for more information on a school project about how a vet practice works, and could I come in and talk to them about it. I received a phone call from 2 of the vets – a 28% response rate! I didn’t know what this meant at the time, but my love affair with business and direct mail began.
Fast forward 11 years, and my first job out of high school was in a call centre. I quickly came to love the thrill of a sale, and began appreciating the relationship (and differences) between sales and marketing. The next 7 years were spent in a mix of sales and team leadership roles, until I found a role at mailing equipment company, Pitney Bowes. It was here that I became exposed to the real estate industry, and saw their battle between effective marketing, and effective use of their time.
After some time, I decided that I could really assist in this area by establishing a mail house, specifically for real estate agents. AgentMail was born, and now with clients across Australia, from all major franchise groups and many independent agencies, our team sends around 3 million letters per year.
I then decided that I could take our systems and processes, and create a framework that agents could follow. If they were doing it themselves, or if that outsourced it, it would provide the structure to ensure that their campaigns were performing at their best, and that the maximum number of leads were gained. The result was Alpha Mail.
In my down time, I love spending time with my family at our North Lakes home, or heading out to some of our local mountain bike trails to see how many bones I can break. I am also a passionate supporter of the Brisbane Lions, and as a Pom am probably one of the few that has been totally converted to AFL.
